Thermal Imaging – The New Generation of Breast Cancer ScreeningMedical Study Thomassin L, Giraud D. et al: Detection of Subclinical Breast Cancers by Infrared Thermography: In a series of 4,000 confirmed breast cancers, Thomassin and associates observed 130 subclinical carcinomas ranging in diameter of 3 to 5mm. Both mammography and thermography were used alone and in combination. Of the 130 cancers, 10% were detected by mammography only, 50% by thermography alone, and 40% by both techniques. Thus, there was a thermal alarm in 90% of the patients and the only sign in 50% of the cases. What is Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI)?DITI is a FDA-approved diagnostic imaging technique that records the thermal patterns of the body. Physiological changes can occur within the body years before a tumor actually forms. By tracking the body from an early stage, we can detect these disturbances and set forth a plan of defense to eliminate the problem before a person’s health is compromised and life is potentially put at risk. The procedure is entirely non-invasive (it involves no contact with the body), affordable, painless, and involves no radiation. Digital Thermography has been used successfully, with no risks, to detect physiological disturbances for conditions that range from thyroid dysfunction to inflammatory cancers for over a decade and is comparable in accuracy to mammography with none of the risks. DITI for Breast ImagingOn November 16, 2009 The United States Preventative Services Task Force announced new recommended guidelines for mammography stating that it no longer recommends screenings for women between the ages of 40 and 49 because the risks outweigh the benefit. A statement released by the American Cancer Society included, “And like the USPSTF, the American Cancer Society panel also found that mammography has limitations – some women who are screened will have false alarms; some cancers will be missed; and some women will undergo unnecessary treatment.” Treatment that is often extremely dangerous (chemotherapy). Since women, especially African American women, are increasingly developing breast cancer in their thirties, the worst thing that can be done is nothing at all. The physicians at Progressive Medical Center recommend that women begin receiving annual thermal imaging screenings around 28 years old to allow for a longer period with which to track any subtle changes in the breast tissue. How does Thermal Imaging work?“This is a test of physiology, not anatomy”, Dr Gamba, NMD, explains. A tumor often grows for years before it is detected by a traditional mammogram, but DITI screens the breast for disturbances and subtle physiological changes that accompany breast pathology, like vascular feeds leading to a tumor in it’s earliest stages. Dr. Gamba will perform the screening at Progressive Medical Center and an off-site M.D. who is Board certified in Thermography then examines the scans. If a disturbance is detected, Progressive physicians will then lay out a lifestyle and nutrition plan, and sometimes hormone and supplementation accordingly continue to further monitor the breasts. An Ounce of Prevention…Along with regular thermal imaging screenings to detect existing irregularities in breast pathology, it’s imperative to make lifestyle choices that arm you in the fight against cancer and other wellness-robbing diseases. A few of the other services that Progressive offers to keep you winning the fight for your health are: personal training, nutritional guidance, healthy cooking classes, detoxification, supplementation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and much more.
